A sound collaboration with Paul Sadowski, we paired up to mix an interpretation of Cage's 49 Waltzes for the Five Boroughs with the fruiting bodies of mushrooms as our randomizing conceit. Walking the five boroughs of New York for over a year, we collected 147 field recordings from locations where mushrooms were growing. We edited the durations, dynamics and position of each track according to an algorithm Paul set up. The sound piece was performed as part of Roaming Urban Soundscapes, the NYMS Anniversary and John Cage Centennial at The Great Hall, Cooper Union in New York City.
